Planting with Pets in Mind
It's not uncommon for our pets to munch on our plants. Sometimes they're curious about their new leafy housemates, and sometimes our pets are just plain jerks that like to bite plants. It happens. (We're looking at you, cats!) Whatever the reason, plants are bound to get bitten, so it's best to collect plants that are non-toxic. Most plants should not be fully eaten, but a few can afford the occasional curious bite or two.
Cat (and dog) safe Cacti
Obviously, when we think of a cactus plant, we think of the sharp, painful spines. This feaure alone might be enough to dissuade the curious pet from taking a bite, but in case your pets are brave enough to get past the pointy bits, the fleshy skin of these cacti are safe for ingestion and will not harm them.
Eat-able Echeveria
Want to keep the easy-care requirements but ditch the painful spines? You got it! Echeverias are succulents, making them wonderfully easy to take care of, while also being spine-free and pet-friendly. We do not recommend actually trying to eat these succulents, but they're safe for the occasional curious munch.
BIG plants that are BIG safe
The great thing about plants is there's always a variety! If you're not into smaller plants and need somthing a little bigger, you're in luck! These are a few of our favorite large and full-size plants that are the perfect pet-safe statement pieces!
